Mediterranean
The name of the
Costa Del Sol was given because it perfectly suited the geographical and climatological environment of the extensive and beautiful Andalucian Mediterranean coast. A coastline of marked and varied characteristics, an area abounding in sharp contrasts in the landscape, the folklore, the architecture. A gentle climate, brilliant sunlight; charming beaches and coves; sea and mountains.
The foothills of the
Sierra Nevada protect the coastline from winter winds and everywhere there are palm trees, prickly pears and a variety of subtropical plants. Beside the sea there is an extensive area of very rich fertile plains which appears like a rich green carpet; in this privileged Mediterranean coastal zone are unmistakable traces of former cultures.
Almuñécar

Almuñécar is a village with its own special beauty, in the midst of a very fertile area where palm trees and cactus add an exotic touch.
Trees are growing everywhere, the mountains are friendly and noble, the sea very blue.
There are Phoenician ruins and an Arab fortress (restored by Carlos V) which dominates Almuñécar.
Almuñécar enjoys a fabulous Mediterranean climate and retains a Spanish feel to the town.
Nerja

A town of Moorish origin, is situated on a cliff, in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara. A picturesque spot, in an area of marvellous natural scenery, marked by unusual and beautiful coves.
The land is rich in sugar cane, yams and many varieties of subtropical fruit.
One of Nerja's main attractions are the famous prehistoric caves. Discovered in 1960 by 5 boys playing on Nerja beach, these caves are of stunning natural beauty.
